Let's dig into how Slash got that tone on "Welcome To The Jungle" and how you can too.
Contrary to popular belief, Slash did not use a Boss DD-3 Digital Delay to record the intro of "Welcome To The Jungle". He did however, own and use the DD-3 pedal for the demo.
So, what the hell did he use then?
He used a Roland srv2000 reverb unit that producer, Mike Clink and just about every other producer in the 80's had in the studio. Mainly a reverb unit however, it has some badass delays too.
You can get one of these bad boys on eBay for about $150 however, if you prefer pedals over racks the Boss DD-3 will do it justice.
Slash used a 59' Gibson Les Paul Standard Replica equipped with Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pickups. This is his main guitar used on just about every album since.
59' 100W Marshall JMP Super Lead (#36) modified to produce more gain. Modded by adding a 4th tube (originally had 3), swapping out the capacitors with old vintage ones and adding a Master Volume Knob. Please don't try this at home without professional assistance!.
The creation of the song came about when Slash was m messing around with the intro riff on an acoustic as Axel was leaving. The next day they bought a 3 hour block at a rehearsal studio where they hashed it out. The rest as they say, was history.
